Interventional Cardiology

Heart disease has long been the leading cause of death in the United States. The aging population of the United States, with 40 million Americans approaching or over the age of 65, coupled with the increasingly high prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors, has resulted in an exponential increase in invasive cardiovascular procedures. Interventional cardiology has become one of the fastest growing areas in the healthcare industry, due in large part to the high revenues and robust profit margins accompanying these procedures. As the volume of interventional cardiology procedures has increased, so have the complications, including coronary ruptures, retroperitoneal hematomas, renal failure, the need for unplanned open-heart surgeries, and death.

The Interventional Cardiology Litigation Group was formed in 2009. Members of the Litigation Group handle cases involving the care of patients with known and undiagnosed heart disease. The Group provides members with the tools and resources necessary to successfully litigate their interventional cardiology cases. Group members network and discuss legal cases and strategies on the Group’s plaintiff-only list server and at regular meetings, including AAJ Conventions and Education seminars on interventional cardiology cases. The Interventional Cardiology Litigation Group Document Library is another member benefit, where group members can search for court documents, briefs, depositions, and more.
