Child Sex Abuse
The sexual exploitation of a child is a heinous crime. It is often committed by persons who hold positions of great respect and authority in society. Unfortunately, priests, ministers, teachers, scout leaders, and parents have been implicated in these crimes. Injuries to these children include lifelong emotional and psychological scars, substance abuse, and, in some cases, suicide.
The group was originally formed in 1986 at the urging of William A. Barton. In recent years, the group has concentrated on the Roman Catholic clergy, scouting activities, and other religious denominations. Litigation has dramatically increased during the last five years.
New members receive a document index of the group's national depository and may order documents and articles on all aspects of the litigation. These materials include expert depositions, plaintiffs' and defendants' discovery documents, and pleadings. The group is also in contact with victim support groups and assists in locating counsel.
- Meetings: The group meets at AAJ Annual and Winter conventions.
- Membership: The group is limited to AAJ Regular, Life, Sustaining, and President's Club members only.
- Annual Dues: $100/attorney
