School bus collision

September 2024

A school bus driver allegedly crossed a highway median and collided with a dump truck. Miranda Vargas, 10, was ejected from the bus and suffered fatal injuries. Asher Majeed, also 10, suffered a traumatic brain injury, a fractured clavicle, and other fractures, necessitating months in the hospital and surgery to remove a portion of his skull. He now suffers from cognitive and emotional issues.

Suit on their behalf alleged the Paramus School District was liable for the collision.

The parties settled for $19.5 million. Majeed will receive $12.5 million, and the Vargas plaintiffs will receive the remainder.
