Willful copyright infringement

September 2024

Pacifica Senior Living, which operates multiple senior living facilities and reportedly is one of the largest personalized care providers in the United States, used 42 of photographer Scott Hargis’s images to market and advertise its senior living communities. Hargis notified Pacifica Senior Living of this, but it continued to use the images without authorization.

Hargis sued Pacifica Senior Living Management LLC, alleging willful copyright infringement.

The jury awarded $6.3 million.

Citation: Hargis v. Pacifica Senior Living Mgmt. LLC, No. 2:22-cv-06989 (C.D. Cal. Dec. 11, 2023).
