Negligent security at pub

Rafael Perez-Valdivia went to Roxy’s pub for dinner. While he was inside the pub’s bathroom, another patron allegedly harassed him. Perez-Valdivia returned to his table, where the other patron allegedly continued to be verbally harass him. After approximately 20 minutes, the patron screamed at Perez-Valdivia and smashed a glass beer mug across his face.

Perez-Validivia sued the owners and operators of the pub, alleging negligent security. The plaintiff claimed that pub personnel witnessed the incident but failed to deescalate or defuse the situation.

The parties settled for a total of approximately $1.47 million.
